SOAS, University of London
Founded in 1916 as the School of Oriental Studies, SOAS took its current name in 1938 and was reconstructed as the School of Asian-African Culture Studies. Part of the University of London, which includes the world’s leading educational institutions such as UCL and LSE, SOAS is the only college in the UK that can specialize in Asian, African and Middle Eastern culture.

About the University
The school, which is very strong in fields such as International Relations, Politics and Middle Eastern Studies, was selected as the 9th best university by rising 15 places in The Good University Guide rankings in 2008 and ranked 4th in the London rankings. It rose 3 places to 8th in the Guardian Newspaper’s list of the UK’s best universities. In the RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) rankings made in 2001, 11 departments of the university were rated 5* and 5*.
SOAS is the best school in England in its specialized field. With the education style of the school and the opening of new departments, the number of students increased and the pioneering research feature of the school came to the fore. SOAS today has more than 4,400 students, 40% of whom are graduate and research students. Some of the undergraduate and graduate programs offered at the school are: Anthropology and Sociology, History, Music, Finance and Business, Law, Economics and International Relations, Regional Studies.
