About the University
Founded in 1823 as the Mechanics Institute under the leadership of a professor named George Birkbeck, Birkbeck University, under the umbrella of the University of London, is a world-class research and teaching institution. Every year, around 19000 students have the opportunity to study at Birkbeck College, located in the cosmopolitan and colourful city of London.
According to the official rankings (Research Assessment Exercise) made by the government in 2008, Birkbeck is in the top 25 percentile for success rate.
